Developer Supergiant Games' 2020 roguelike Hades will be getting a sequel. It's a bold move that raises the stakes and offers an in-depth look at family politics.
Melinoe is back to kill Chronos the titan of time. Along the journey, she'll encounter new gods, like the personifications of light Apollo and witchcraft goddess Hecate, along with the god of revenge Nemesis.
1. Hades 2 Technical Test
If you're a big fan of Supergiant Games and their famous 2020 roguelike Hades It might be worth your while to consider signing up for the technical test for its sequel. The studio has announced it's Early Access launch will be imminent, and a playtest with a lower number of players than the full 1.0 version will help iron any bugs out.
The process of signing up is as easy as visiting the game's Steam page, and pressing the "request access" button. There are a limited number of spots available, however, and not everyone who applies will be selected. The test's technical component allows players to play the first part of Hades 2 with early-game content as well as characters and systems. Those who complete the area will be "gently encouraged" to hold off and wait for the Early Access Version, which is expected to launch in the coming days.
The new game centers around Melinoe's quest to the Underworld to save her family. She's accompanied by her aunt Hecate, and the game promises to provide a deeper understanding of Greek mythology than the original. The sequel adds a variety of new powers and more sexy Gods for her to impress.
Hades 2 builds upon the roguelike gameplay from its predecessor, but with a brand new character and a greater selection of Greek Gods to be attracted. Supergiant is hoping for the same combination of responsive action and a rich visuals that made its predecessor a Game of the Year contender when it was released in 2021.
Technical test participants will be able select different boons and rewards for every room they visit fight minibosses and enemies, and fight the boss of the area. They'll also have the option to choose permanent upgrades and take on the challenge of "God Mode."
Hades 2 will feature more levels, enemies and voiced characters key areas than the finished version of the original. However, those selected for the technical test will not be able to carry over their progress to the Early Access build. Supergiant plans to "reset" the game back to the beginning once it reaches Early Access. This means that save data won't be transferred.
2. Hades 2 Early Access
Hades 2 has officially entered early access and is now available for purchase on Steam and Epic Games Store. The players who decide to purchase the game will be able to play the early access version and the 1.0 full version once it is released and which Supergiant Games has confirmed will occur sometime in 2024.
The original Hades is an iconic modern classic. This sequel however, blows it away in nearly every way. The roguelite is more detailed and satisfying combat than ever before. It's like an entirely realized game just waiting for a few more details to make it a masterpiece.
Aside from its stunning visuals, Hades 2 introduces a variety of brand new and exciting characters and features that enhance the experience and test players in ways they've did not anticipate. Apart from the new gods and shades that populate the Underworld, there's a whole array of other items to collect and enhance by using Incantations, which is a system of permanent improvements that can be found in every run. Melinoe is able to craft new spells and improve her Nocturnal Armor and Nocturnal Weapons. She also can gather items from the Crossroads Camp for subsequent runs, and unlock boons, weapons and other tools.
Another great addition is the opening up of more open regions which provide a variety of different routes to take through each area and an ever-changing setting to explore. Each region is a unique take on the Underworld and some are more accessible than others, all offering unique challenges that stand out from the standard fare of most other roguelites.
Supergiant has also redesigned gameplay in the early-access build. This cuts down on the grinding needed to reach certain upgrades and makes it easier to move between different areas. There's still a lot of work to be done before the game can be released full release however, the studio has made it clear that it's determined to make the most of user feedback and keep working to bring Hades 2 to a perfect state.
Supergiant has a reputation for listening to its players and solving any issues that come up, which is evident in the way it's handled the early access version of Hades 2. While it's still a while before the full version is released Hades 2 already feels like a worthy addition to your gaming library.
3. Hades 2 Beta
Hades was a roguelike unlike any other that came out in the year of 2018. The game received numerous awards and is considered to be one of the most enjoyable games ever made. It's no surprise that the game resonated so well with the public, due to its rich narrative which is rooted in Greek Mythology, stories of family struggles and LGBTQ+ representation which feels natural and inclusive. So when Supergiant Games announced that it was working on a sequel works, it was no surprise that fans were ecstatic.
Seven years after its first release, Hades 2 has finally entered early access. Although it hasn't been changed much mechanically, Supergiant's love and dedication to Hades 2 are evident from the beginning.
According to the Steam page for Hades 2, the game "brings back all the elements that made the first one so special with the isometric perspective clearing rooms, deciding on boons and unleashing powerful attacks, the central world that is populated by fully voiced characters to interact with and learn from, the ever-changing Underworld and more."

Anyone who wants to purchase the game can do so via both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Anyone who purchases the early access version will be granted access to all future versions of the game. Hades 2 will be released in entirety by the end of 2024.
The roguelike is not due to launch until 2022 but the early access version of the game has already caught players attracted to the game's gameplay. A livestream that aired the technical test revealed some information about the game's new characters and gameplay.
During the stream, developers talked about how they plan to add new characters, regions and challenges over the coming months. They also talked about how they intend to make combat more enjoyable by introducing more skills based on skill.
Supergiant stated in its FAQ that the early-access version of Hades 2 will have "at at least the same number of levels, enemies, and voiced characters as the finished version of Hades." The team expects to continue development until the end of 2024. This means that a 1.0 release could be a few months off.
The trailer for Hades 2 features the Underworld Princess, Melinoe, fighting the cool witch Hecate. Although Melinoe isn't an exact remake of Zagreus, Supergiant says that Melinoe will still have the same style and personality. The character is also based on an existing character from Greek mythology which the studio has adapted to suit the story of Hades 2.
